QlikView vs Tableau Cost and Migration for Teams Replacing QlikView in 2026
QlikView is no longer sold and the May 2024 release loses support on 31 October 2026. If Tableau is on your shortlist, here is what it costs against staying with Qlik at 10, 50 and 200 users, and what a QlikView to Tableau move really involves.

QlikView vs Tableau is no longer a contest between two products on the market. Qlik stopped selling new stand-alone QlikView licenses, and its lifecycle table ends support for QlikView 12.90 (May 2024) on 31 October 2026 and for the last release, 12.100, on 30 September 2027. So the real question for a QlikView customer is whether to move to Tableau or stay with Qlik by moving to Qlik Cloud. On published list prices, Tableau Standard is the cheaper license below about 39 users and Qlik Cloud Standard is cheaper above that, as long as your data fits in its 25 GB allowance.
Prices below were read on 6 October 2026 from tableau.com's pricing page and its pricing FAQ, and from qlik.com/us/pricing. QlikView has no public price because it is not sold to new customers, so the cost of staying on it is your renewal quote.
Is QlikView still supported?
For now, on the newest releases only. These are the dates that matter for anyone deciding between QlikView and Tableau this quarter.
| QlikView release | End of support | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 12.80 (May 2023) | 31 Oct 2025 | Already unsupported |
| 12.90 (May 2024) | 31 Oct 2026 | Ends this month |
| 12.100 | 30 Sep 2027 | The last runway |
If you are on 12.90, upgrading to 12.100 keeps every document, script and CAL working and buys eleven months. That is usually worth doing even if Tableau is the destination, because it turns a rushed cutover into a planned project. It does not change the destination: there is no QlikView release after 12.100 on Qlik's roadmap.
QlikView vs Tableau cost at 10, 50 and 200 users
Tableau prices by role. On Tableau Standard a Creator is $75, an Explorer $42 and a Viewer $15 per user per month, billed annually; on Tableau Enterprise the same roles cost $115, $70 and $35. The headline "from $15" on tableau.com is the Viewer seat. Qlik Cloud, the product Qlik offers QlikView customers instead, does the opposite: Starter is $300 a month for 10 users and 10 GB, Standard is $825 a month with unlimited users and 25 GB of data for analysis, and Premium is $2,750 with 50 GB.
Here is a year of licensing with one Creator in every ten people and everyone else on a Viewer seat, which is a typical shape for a team coming off QlikView where a few developers build and the rest read.
| Team | Tableau Standard | Tableau Enterprise | Qlik Cloud | QlikView 12.100 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 users (1 Creator) | $2,520 | $5,160 | $3,600 on Starter | Renewal quote |
| 50 users (5 Creators) | $12,600 | $25,800 | $9,900 on Standard | Renewal quote |
| 200 users (20 Creators) | $50,400 | $103,200 | $9,900 on Standard, $33,000 on Premium | Renewal quote |
Two things move these numbers more than anything else. On the Tableau side it is the Creator count: if a third of your people build their own views, the 50-user Standard bill rises from $12,600 to about $21,200. On the Qlik side it is data volume, not people, because a QlikView estate with large in-memory documents can push you from Standard to Premium before the user count matters. Tableau Server, the self-hosted option, costs the same per seat as Tableau Cloud, and you also run the hardware. The role-by-role detail is on our Tableau pricing page and every Qlik tier is on Qlik Sense pricing.
Where Tableau is the better choice than QlikView
Visual analysis by people who are not developers. Tableau's drag-and-drop canvas lets an analyst go from a question to a chart without writing a script, which is the thing QlikView users most often say they miss. In QlikView, a new chart in a governed document usually means a request to whoever owns the load script.
Hiring and training. Tableau's community, certification track and supply of experienced analysts in the US are far larger than QlikView's, which matters more each year as QlikView specialists retire or retrain on Qlik Sense.
An active roadmap. Tableau ships new releases and AI features, sold through the Enterprise edition and Tableau Next, which starts at $40 a user a month. QlikView gets maintenance and nothing else.
Where QlikView, and Qlik, still win over Tableau
Scripted data loading. QlikView's load script cleans, joins and reshapes data before it reaches a chart. Tableau expects that work in Tableau Prep or upstream in SQL, which is a better long-term design but a real rebuild for a QlikView estate with thousands of script lines.
The associative model. Every selection in QlikView filters every table and shows what was excluded in grey. Tableau's filters and relationships are explicit, and some QlikView users find that slower to explore with.
Flat cost at scale. Above about 39 people with a one-in-ten Creator mix, Qlik Cloud Standard's $9,900 unlimited-user price is cheaper than Tableau Standard. Teams with 150 or 200 readers and modest data volumes will pay several times less with Qlik. If those are your numbers, compare Qlik's own path on Tableau vs Qlik before committing.
What a QlikView to Tableau migration actually involves
No tool turns a QVW file into a Tableau workbook, so the work is a rebuild in four parts, and the order matters.
- Inventory by usage. Pull QlikView Server session logs for the last 90 days and rank documents by sessions. Most estates find that a minority of documents carries nearly all the use. Archive the rest instead of rebuilding them.
- Move the load scripts upstream. Rewrite each script's joins and transformations as views or tables in your warehouse, or as Tableau Prep flows. Doing it in SQL means the next BI tool, if there is one, inherits it for free.
- Rebuild Section Access. QlikView row-level rules become Tableau user filters, an entitlement table joined on USERNAME(), or data policies on Tableau Cloud virtual connections. Test this with real user accounts, because it is where migrations most often leak data.
- Replace NPrinting. Scheduled PDF and Excel distributions become Tableau subscriptions or scheduled exports. Check what you currently pay for NPrinting in our Qlik NPrinting pricing breakdown, because that line disappears from the renewal.
Before the renewal date, put the QlikView maintenance terms, the notice period and the new Tableau order form in one place. If your company already tracks vendor agreements in contract management software, log the auto-renewal date there so the old contract does not roll over while the new one starts.
The documents you may not need to rebuild at all
A lot of what sits in an old QlikView estate is not a dashboard anyone checks every week. It is a document someone built to answer one question, such as which accounts bought less this quarter than last, that nobody has opened since. Rebuilding those in Tableau is the most expensive way to answer a question once.
That long tail is what AgentSQL handles. It connects read-only to PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake or BigQuery, turns a typed question into SQL, runs it and returns the number, a chart and the exact query, so an analyst can check the logic. It does not draw governed dashboards, so it sits beside Tableau rather than replacing it, and it only works if the data QlikView loaded already lives in one of those four databases. Team is $59 a month billed yearly for up to 10 seats. You can try it in the console at the top of this page.
QlikView vs Tableau, the decision in one line each
- Pick Tableau if you have fewer than about 40 people, a mostly-viewer audience, analysts who want to explore visually, and Salesforce in the stack.
- Pick Qlik Cloud if you have dozens of script-heavy documents, more than about 40 readers, and data that fits in 25 GB.
- Upgrade to 12.100 first if you cannot finish either move before 31 October 2026.

Common questions
- Which is better, Tableau or QlikView?
- For a team choosing today, Tableau, mainly because QlikView is no longer sold and its 12.90 release loses support on 31 October 2026. Tableau is stronger at drag-and-drop visual analysis and has a bigger pool of trained analysts. QlikView still does scripted data loading and associative filtering better, which is why script-heavy shops often move to Qlik Cloud instead.
- Can Tableau replace QlikView?
- Yes, for dashboards, ad hoc visual analysis, row-level security and scheduled delivery, but it is a rebuild. QlikView load scripts move to Tableau Prep or SQL in your warehouse, the associative model becomes Tableau relationships, Section Access becomes user filters or entitlement tables, and NPrinting jobs become subscriptions. Nothing converts a QVW file into a Tableau workbook.
- Is Tableau more expensive than Qlik?
- Above about 39 users, usually. Tableau Standard costs $12,600 a year for 5 Creators and 45 Viewers, while Qlik Cloud Standard is a flat $9,900 a year with unlimited users and 25 GB of data. Below about 39 people Tableau is cheaper, and on Enterprise the same 50-person team costs $25,800.
- How much does it cost to move from QlikView to Tableau?
- The license is the smaller part. Tableau Standard runs about $252 a user a year with one Creator in ten, so $12,600 for 50 people. The larger cost is rebuilding each QlikView document, its load script and its Section Access rules by hand. Count documents in active use before you price the project.
- Is QlikView still supported?
- Partly. Qlik's lifecycle table ends support for QlikView 12.90 (May 2024) on 31 October 2026 and for QlikView 12.100 on 30 September 2027. Release 12.80 left support on 31 October 2025. Existing customers can still renew and upgrade to 12.100, but Qlik no longer sells new stand-alone QlikView licenses.
