QuickSight Q Pricing and Amazon Q in QuickSight Cost for a 25 Person Team

Marcus Feld, Analytics·Oct 13, 2026·8 min read

Amazon Q in QuickSight has no price of its own. Asking questions rides on the $3 Reader and $24 Author seats, the generative features sit in the $20 and $40 Pro seats, and a $250 monthly account fee switches on with either. Here is the bill for 25 people and the quoted figures that are no longer on the AWS page.

A real MySQL shop: customers, products, orders and signups over the last year. AgentSQL writes the SQL, runs it read-only, and answers.

QuickSight Q pricing has no line of its own on the AWS price list. Read on 13 October 2026, asking questions in plain English is included in the $3 Reader and $24 Author seats, the generative features sit in Reader Pro at $20 and Author Pro at $40 per user a month, and a $250 monthly per-account infrastructure fee applies as soon as Q&A is enabled or one Pro user exists. For a 25 person team with 3 Authors and 22 Readers who ask questions, that is $388 a month or $4,656 a year, and $3,000 of it is the account fee.

AWS has also renamed the product. The page is now titled Amazon Quick Sight, described as the BI capabilities of Amazon Quick, and the Q branding survives only in feature names such as Amazon Q Topics. This article covers the question-asking add-on only. For SPICE, sessions, reports and the Standard edition, see our full QuickSight pricing breakdown.

If the goal is simply to let people ask a database a question and get a checked answer, you can try that now with AgentSQL: the console on our home page writes the SQL, runs it read-only and shows the query. Our Team plan is $708 a year flat. The comparison is near the end.

QuickSight Q pricing table for October 2026

Every figure below is from aws.amazon.com/quick/quicksight/pricing, which is where the old /quicksight/pricing address now redirects.

ItemPrice on the AWS pageWhat it gets you for Q
Reader$3 per user a monthDashboards, alerts, and asking questions in natural language through Q&A
Reader Pro$20 per user a monthReader plus executive summaries, building data stories, scenarios
Author$24 per user a monthBuild dashboards and datasets, ask questions in natural language
Author Pro$40 per user a monthAuthor plus building dashboards by prompt, creating Amazon Q Topics, data stories, scenarios
Account infrastructure fee$250 per account a monthCharged once if the account has a Pro user, Q&A via Topics, or dashboard Q&A
Amazon Q questions, monthly capacity$250 a month for 500 questions$0.50 for each extra question, no named users
Amazon Q questions, annual capacity$18,000 a year for 60,000, or $120,000 a year for 600,000$0.30 or $0.20 for each extra question

Admin and Admin Pro users cost the same as Author and Author Pro. Above 1,000,000 questions a year the capacity table says to contact AWS.

Is there a base fee for QuickSight Q?

Yes, and it is the number that surprises people. AWS words it as a $250 a month per account infrastructure fee that applies if your account has at least one Pro user, Q&A enabled via Topics, or dashboard Q&A enabled. It is per account, not per user. One Reader Pro seat for one curious executive therefore costs $20 plus $250, and a team that never touches Pro still pays the $250 the moment an admin turns on Q&A for a dashboard.

Two details are worth reading closely before you budget. First, the footnote under the capacity tables phrases the trigger differently, as accounts with at least one Pro user and Q&A enabled, so the page is not perfectly consistent with itself. Assume the broader wording when you plan. Second, the fee is flat. At 5 users it dominates the bill, and at 500 it is noise.

What 25 people pay for Amazon Q in QuickSight

Take one team: 25 people, 3 analysts who build dashboards and 22 colleagues in finance, ops and sales who want to ask questions. Three ways to license it, all at list price.

SetupSeatsAccount feePer monthPer year
No Q&A at all3 Authors at $24, 22 Readers at $3, $138None$138$1,656
Q&A on, standard seats3 Authors at $24, 22 Readers at $3, $138$250$388$4,656
Q&A on, one Author Pro to build Topics1 Author Pro at $40, 2 Authors at $24, 22 Readers at $3, $154$250$404$4,848
Everyone on Pro3 Author Pro at $40, 22 Reader Pro at $20, $560$250$810$9,720

The seats are cheap. The jump from row one to row two is the whole cost of asking questions, exactly $3,000 a year, and it makes up 64 percent of the $388 monthly bill. Going all-in on Pro more than doubles it again, because each Reader Pro costs nearly seven times a Reader.

The third row is the one most teams land on. The Author Pro description lists creating Amazon Q Topics among its features, and a Topic is the curated layer that tells Q which fields exist, what they are called in the business, and which synonyms to accept. Somebody has to build and maintain it, so plan for at least one Author Pro.

None of these rows includes the cost of the data underneath. SPICE beyond the 10 GB that comes with each Author is $0.38 per GB a month, and direct queries to Redshift, Athena or Snowflake are billed by those services.

Quoted prices that are not on the AWS page today

Search for this topic and you get forum threads, an old review-site PDF and price trackers that disagree with each other. To settle it, I pulled every dollar amount out of the raw HTML of the Quick Sight pricing page. There are 28 distinct tokens, from $0.05 to $258,000. The per-user ones are $3, $9, $12, $20, $24 and $40, and that is all of them.

What Amazon Q in Quick Sight includes and what it does not

On standard seats you get Q&A: a reader types a question against a Topic or a dashboard and gets a chart back. Readers can also consume data stories that authors share. On Pro seats you add executive summaries of a dashboard, building data stories, scenario analysis for what-if questions, and for Author Pro, building visuals by describing them.

What is not included is the preparation. Q answers from Topics and datasets an author has already modeled, not from any table in your warehouse, so a question about data nobody has added to a Topic goes unanswered. The answers are also only as good as the tables feeding them, which is why it pays to trace where each column actually comes from before you expose it to 22 people who will trust the first number they see.

How Amazon Quick pricing changes the Pro seats

The page splits Pro features by region. In regions where Amazon Quick is available, Reader Pro carries everything in the Quick Professional plan and Author Pro everything in Quick Enterprise, at no additional cost. On the separate Amazon Quick pricing page those plans are $20 and $40 per user a month plus the same $250 account fee, with 8 and 18 agent hours respectively. Extra agent hours cost $3 each and are available on Enterprise only.

There is also a promotion with a date on it. Standard $24 Authors in Quick regions get promotional access to all Quick Enterprise capabilities till December 31, 2026. If you are evaluating this quarter, part of what you see on a $24 seat becomes a $40 seat feature in January.

How QuickSight Q compares with AgentSQL

We build AgentSQL, so read this as an interested party. It does a narrower job. There are no dashboards, no SPICE and no embedding. You connect it read-only to PostgreSQL, MySQL or MariaDB, Snowflake or BigQuery, ask a question in plain English, and it writes the SQL, runs it, and returns the answer with a chart and the exact query beside it so an analyst can verify the logic. There is no Topic to build first, because it reads the schema you connect.

Be honest about fit. Team has 10 seats, so it covers the people who actually ask questions, not all 25. Our Scale plan is $179 a month billed yearly, $2,148 a year, and adds role-based access and an audit log. If your company already lives on AWS dashboards and wants Q on top of them, Quick Sight is the natural choice and $3,000 a year is a fair price for it. If you were about to stand up a BI account mainly so people could ask questions, the flat price is the cheaper route.

Next steps before you sign anything

  1. Count who will ask questions and who only reads dashboards. Readers at $3 already get Q&A, so do not buy Reader Pro by default.
  2. Budget the $250 fee as a fixed $3,000 a year and decide whether the account is worth it at your size.
  3. Name the person who will build Topics and give that one person Author Pro.
  4. Check whether your region has Amazon Quick, since that changes what a Pro seat contains.
  5. Price the alternatives on the same team. We have done the math for the Power BI Copilot license, Databricks Genie pricing and Snowflake Cortex Analyst pricing, and QuickSight vs Power BI compares the two seat models directly.

For a wider view of the category, our guide to conversational BI tools lists the main options with prices. And if you want to see a question turned into SQL before you spend anything on seats, open the console on the AgentSQL home page and ask it one, then check our plans against the table above.

Common questions

How much does Amazon Q in QuickSight cost?
Amazon Q in QuickSight has no separate price. Asking questions is part of the $3 Reader and $24 Author seats, and the generative features sit in Reader Pro at $20 and Author Pro at $40 per user a month. Any account with Q&A enabled or a Pro user also pays a $250 monthly infrastructure fee.
Is Amazon Q included in QuickSight?
Partly. AWS lists natural language Q&A on the plain Reader and Author seats, so asking questions needs no Pro license. Data stories, executive summaries, scenarios and building dashboards by prompt need Reader Pro or Author Pro. Turning Q&A on triggers the $250 monthly account fee either way.
Is there a base fee for QuickSight Q?
Yes. AWS charges a $250 per month per account infrastructure fee when the account has at least one Pro user, Q&A enabled through Topics, or dashboard Q&A enabled. It is charged once per account, not per user, so it adds $3,000 a year whether you have 5 people or 500.
What is the difference between Reader and Reader Pro in QuickSight?
Reader costs $3 per user a month and Reader Pro costs $20. Both can view dashboards and ask questions in natural language. Reader Pro adds executive summaries, building data stories and scenario analysis, and in regions where Amazon Quick is available it carries everything in the Quick Professional plan.
How much is QuickSight Author Pro?
Author Pro is $40 per user a month on the AWS pricing page read on 13 October 2026, against $24 for a standard Author. Some third-party trackers still print $50, a figure that is not on the page. Author Pro also comes with a credit for 10 GB of SPICE.
Can I buy Amazon Q questions without buying seats?
Yes. Capacity pricing sells Amazon Q questions in bulk without named users. The monthly plan is $250 for 500 questions with $0.50 for each extra one, and annual plans are $18,000 for 60,000 questions or $120,000 for 600,000. AWS aims it at embedded applications and very large rollouts.
