Hex Pricing and Hex Tech Pricing per Editor Seat, AI Credit and Compute Hour

The Hex data platform charges for three things: editor seats, AI credits once the monthly grant runs out, and compute above Medium. All three are priced below from hex.tech and its docs, then the same team is priced against a flat plan.

Direct answer

Hex costs $36 per editor a month on Professional and $75 per editor a month on Team. Community is free and Enterprise is a custom quote. Viewers are free on every plan. AI work is metered in credits: each Team editor gets 40 a month, and past that the workspace buys 50 credits for $25, which is $0.50 a credit. Compute above Medium bills by the minute, from $0.32 to $4.06 an hour. All figures read from hex.tech and learn.hex.tech on 24 October 2026.

Plan Per editor a month AI credit grant What you get
Community Free 5 a month Agent trial, any data source, all cell types, Small compute, up to 5 published apps, 7-day version history.
Professional $36 30 a month The Hex agent, Medium compute, up to 5 published apps, 30-day version history. Listed under individual plans.
Team $75 40 an editor, 10 an explorer Unlimited published apps, scheduled runs and alerts, drill down, shared components and collections, unlimited version history, advanced compute add-ons. 14-day trial with no card.
Enterprise Custom On the order form Explorer seat add-on, audit logs, OIDC SSO, OAuth database connections, bring your own model key, HIPAA, single tenant and embedded analytics add-ons, dedicated support.

Seats

Only editors pay

Every plan lists unlimited users, so the people who open a published app cost nothing. The catch is the Explorer role, for people who poke at data and ask the agent questions without building projects. Hex sells it as a per-seat add-on and does not print the price.

Professional

$36 is a one-person plan

Hex files Professional under individual plans, caps it at 5 published apps and leaves out scheduled runs, shared components and unlimited history. A team that wants to share work and schedule reports is on Team at $75 an editor, so plan budgets on that number.

Trial

14 days of Team, no card

Hex's FAQ says anyone can try Team free for 14 days without a payment card, limited to Medium compute. At the end you either pay or drop to Community and lose the premium features. Cancelling or changing plan is self-serve under Settings, Manage Plan.

›_ hex ai pricing

Hex AI credits are where the bill moves.

Credit grants, top-up price and Hex's own examples, from learn.hex.tech on 24 October 2026.

Every Hex agent task costs credits, scaled to how hard the task is. Hex's documentation gives examples: about 1 credit for "How many customers do we have?", about 2 for a retention line chart, about 5 for a 12-month ARR forecast and about 10 for a data app with inputs. Title generation and a few preview features are free.

The monthly grant belongs to the person, resets every billing cycle and cannot be shared or rolled over. A Team editor gets 40 credits, a Team explorer 10, a Professional editor 30. When someone runs out, they draw from the workspace pool. With auto top-up switched on, Hex buys a 50-credit pack for $25 whenever the pool drops below 25 credits, and admins can set a monthly spend limit.

Here is what that means for business users. Ten explorers who each ask 40 simple questions a month use about 400 credits. Their grants cover 100, so the other 300 cost $150 a month in top-ups, on top of explorer seats whose price Hex does not publish. If the pool is empty and top-ups are off, the agent stops taking prompts until the cycle resets.

On Enterprise you can bring your own OpenAI or Anthropic key. Agent usage then stops drawing credits and the model bill moves to your provider account instead.

›_ hex compute pricing

Hex compute profiles and their hourly rates.

Medium is included on paid plans. Bigger profiles are opt-in on Team and Enterprise and bill per minute.

Profile Memory and CPU Price an hour
Extra small to Medium 2 to 8 GB, up to 1 CPU Included
Large 16 GB, 2 CPU $0.32
Extra large 32 GB, 4 CPU $0.65
2XL 64 GB, 8 CPU $1.29
4XL 128 GB, 16 CPU $2.58
L4 GPU 27 GB, 6 CPU $2.93
A10G GPU 27 GB, 6 CPU $4.06

A common misreading

$2.93 is the GPU rate

At least one pricing guide on page one for this search calls $2.93 an hour the price of CPU-intensive work. On Hex's own table it is the L4 GPU profile. The largest CPU profile, 4XL with 128 GB, is $2.58.

Who pays it

Most SQL work never leaves Medium

Queries run in your warehouse, so the notebook kernel mostly holds results. Compute charges matter for Python modeling on large frames and GPU work. A 2XL kernel left on for 40 hours a month is about $52.

›_ hex cost by team size

What Hex seats cost a month for 1 to 25 people.

List seat prices only, before credits and compute, read 24 October 2026. AgentSQL prices are billed yearly.

Team Hex Professional Hex Team AgentSQL
1 editor $36 on Professional $75 $24 on Starter
3 editors Team plan needed $225 $59 on Team
5 editors Team plan needed $375 $59 on Team
10 editors Team plan needed $750 $59 on Team
25 people Team plan needed $1,875 if all edit $179 on Scale

The honest reading is that Hex and AgentSQL price different jobs. Hex seats buy a full notebook for people who write SQL and Python and publish apps, and three analysts on Team at $225 a month is a fair price for that. Everyone else can view those apps free.

The cost climbs when the goal is letting a sales lead or an operations manager ask their own questions. That needs explorer seats at an unpublished price plus credits past the grant. AgentSQL Team is a flat $59 a month billed yearly for 10 seats and 1,500 questions, and Scale is $179 for 100 seats. Wider field: BI tools comparison and AI analytics tools pricing.

Where Hex wins

Analysts who write SQL and Python

Hex connects to almost any data source, mixes SQL, Python and charts in one notebook, publishes interactive apps, schedules runs, versions everything and offers GPU kernels. It is audited for SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA. For a data team that builds analysis for others, we would not try to talk you out of it.

Where AgentSQL wins

Business people who want the number

AgentSQL connects read-only to PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake or BigQuery in the browser. Someone types a question in plain English and gets a one-line answer, a chart, a table and the SQL behind it. There is no notebook to learn and no credit meter: Team covers 10 seats and 1,500 questions for $59 a month billed yearly.

Our limits

Four engines and no Python

If your data lives in SQL Server, Oracle, Redshift or Databricks, or you need Python models and published apps, stay with Hex. Try your real question in the console at the top of this page first; our text to SQL page shows how each dialect is handled.

›_ frequently asked

Hex pricing questions, answered.

How much does Hex cost?

Hex costs $36 per editor a month on Professional and $75 per editor a month on Team, with a free Community plan and a custom-priced Enterprise plan. AI use is metered in credits on top of a monthly grant, and add-on credits cost $25 for 50. Prices read from hex.tech on 24 October 2026.

Is Hex free?

Hex has a free Community plan for small projects, with Small compute, up to 5 published apps and 5 AI credits a month. The paid Team plan has a 14-day trial with no payment card, after which an account that does nothing drops back to Community. Students and educators can get Professional at no charge.

Does Hex charge for viewers?

No. Every Hex plan lists unlimited users, and the seat price applies to editors. People who only open published apps do not need a paid seat. The Explorer role, for people who explore data and use the agent without building projects, is a paid add-on whose price Hex does not publish.

How do Hex AI credits work?

Each paid seat gets a monthly credit grant: 30 on Professional, 40 per Team editor and 10 per Team explorer. Grants reset monthly and do not roll over. Past the grant, users draw from a shared pool that auto top-up refills with 50 credits for $25. Hex estimates about 1 credit for a simple count question.

What does Hex compute cost?

Medium compute is included on paid plans. Larger profiles are pay-as-you-go on Team and Enterprise, billed per minute: Large $0.32 an hour, Extra large $0.65, 2XL $1.29, 4XL $2.58, the L4 GPU $2.93 and the A10G GPU $4.06. Free trials are limited to Medium.

Is there a cheaper Hex alternative for business users?

If the people asking questions do not write SQL or Python, a notebook is more tool than they need. AgentSQL connects read-only to PostgreSQL, MySQL, Snowflake or BigQuery and answers plain-English questions with a chart, a table and the SQL. Team is $59 a month billed yearly for up to 10 seats.
